George Kent born 12 June 1935

George Kent (June 12, 1935 - August 12, 2010) was an American country singer and songwriter.

George O. Kent, was born in Dallas, Texas. He served in the Army Reserves for four years and was with the Dallas Police Department for five years.

His Country career started when he was a member of KRLD's Big D Jamboree out of Dallas, one of the best known country shows in the late 1950s. Music was his passion and he also enjoyed success as a songwriter, penning songs for Jim Reeves and performing with Buck Owens and Waylon Jennings among others.

Most average country music listeners probably haven't even heard of the late George Kent, probably due to the fact that he only scored one top 40 hit. He had a modest career in terms of nationally-charting singles with 8, and mostly low-ranked, registered from late 1969 to 1977 for Mercury, Shannon and Soundwaves Records.

His best being his first, the December 1969-January 1970 # 26 Hello, I'm A Jukebox. It was written by Tom T. Hall, and with backing vocal provided by Diana Duke was issued on the Mercury label. He also recorded for Starday and Roulette, and all told had something like 60 singles released and at least 3 albums.

In 1980, he and his wife, Jeanne, purchased the Cow Palace in Fort Collins and sold it in 1997. They then purchased land and began raising quarter and paint horses. Along with his music, he enjoyed gardening and landscaping.

He died at McKee Medical Center in Loveland, Colorado, August 12, 2010, age 75 years.
