Christa Williams (5 February 1926 – 28 July 2012) was a German pop singer most popular in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Christa Williams was born Christa Bojarzin in Trier (formerly Königsberg, East Prussia) and grew up in Gelsenkirchen-Erle on Weststrasse. She first studied at the Folkwang University in the Ruhr area. She then began studying voice and harp at the Munich Conservatory, which she continued at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich, although her love now belonged to jazz. She was particularly impressed by the music of Ella Fitzgerald. Finally, in 1957, she auditioned for Bayerischer Rundfunk and immediately received a record contract.
In 1958, she had her first hit, “Himmelblaue Serenade" (Sky Blue Serenade), under the stage name Christa Williams together with Jo Roland. In 1959 she took part in the Swiss preliminary round for the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson européenne with the songs "Mein kleines Lied" (with Jo Roland), "Mit küssen fängt die Liebe an", "Die Spieldose" (with Jo Roland) and "Irgendwoher".
With "Irgendwoher" she was able to qualify for participation and thus took fourth place in Cannes on March 11, 1959. In the same year, she sang the songs "Ohne dich (Near you)" and the successful "My happiness (Immer will ich treu dir sein)" in a duet with Gitta Lind, who also came from Trier like her.
In 1960, she starred in the film Pension Schöller and sang the song "Sag nicht ja". At the end of the same year, the solo recording "Pilou, pilou (What a beautiful sound)" followed. At the German preliminary round for the Grand Prix on 25 February 1961 in Bad Homburg, she was unable to qualify for participation with "Pedro". In 1961, she released the duets "Vaya con dios" and "Blueberry Hill" together with Gitta Lind.
With her many radio and television engagements as well as numerous tours, Christa Williams was one of the busiest German entertainers around 1960. In 1961 she left the record company Decca and switched to Ariola, but was unable to build on her old successes there.
In 1962 she married the pianist Albrecht Huwig, whom she knew from her student days. In 1968, Christa Williams retired from show business and founded a music school in Munich with her husband. She later lived in seclusion in the Munich district of Obermenzing. She died on July 28, 2012 in Munich, Bavaria, Germany.
